Session Fees & Insurance
We believe transparency around fees is an important part of building trust in the therapeutic relationship. Below you’ll find clear information about session costs, insurance options, and how we approach private-pay care at Currents. If you have questions or want support deciding whether we’re the right fit, we’re always happy to talk—starting with a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
What is the cost for one therapy session?
We charge $140 for a 53-60 minute individual therapy session.
We charge $200 for a 53-60 minute couples therapy session.
Do you accept insurance?
Kerry Mecusker accepts Aetna insurance as well as cash pay. If you are hoping to use an insurance plan that we are unable to accept, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they would reimburse a portion of the session cost. Call your insurance company and ask about out-of-network benefits or look up your plan using the Thrizer link below.
We partner with Thrizer (https://www.thrizer.com/for-clients)to handle the out-of-network-process automatically for you. With Thrizer, you will only have to pay a copay for our sessions post-deductible, instead of paying the full fee and waiting for reimbursements. This typically allows clients to save on average 70% upfront on our sessions.

Why don’t you accept most insurances?
We don’t accept most insurance so our therapists can provide high-quality care without the limitations and low reimbursement rates that often lead to burnout. This allows us to keep sessions focused on your needs- not paperwork or insurance requirements- and helps our clinicians sustain the energy and presence needed to truly support you.
Why should I elect private-pay rather than find an insurance-based provider?
Some of the happiest clients are those who seek out-of-network providers because the stress of creating a sustainable practice via low insurance reimbursement rates can trickle down. A stressed or burned out therapist can impact your experience in session. Additionally, all therapists are not the same in their level of training and the investment they have made in themselves, and this creates higher costs for the therapist. However, we do understand there are many factors to consider in choosing a therapist and that cost is an important one.
Our vision at Currents is to be a premier leader of mental health services, able to assist clients wherever they are on the stress continuum. We offer a free 15 minute phone or Telehealth consultation to help you explore options and make a confident choice.
Do you offer sliding scale?
We are not currently in a position to offer sliding scale but are working to have this available in the future.
