FAQs
Frequently asked questions
- 01We are a group psychotherapy practice that offers professional, client-centered therapy that addresses the connection between mind and body. Our approach combines traditional talk-based therapy with somatic, or body-based, techniques. Sessions might include nervous system regulation, trauma therapy, relationship counseling, skills-based learning, or self-discovery depending on client preference. We are committed to creating a safe and collaborative environment where clients can gain insight and get unstuck, creating meaningful and lasting change.
- 02Somatic integration means that we integrate, or use, techniques focused on the body in every session so that the mind and body work together in processing experiences more fully. This might look like guiding clients in practices to increase awareness of the sensations in the inner body or pausing to explore areas of tension that arise in response to topics discussed. The result is that, over time, clients feel more balanced, unblocked, and whole.
- 03Both individual and couples therapy sessions are 53-60 minutes. Our therapy session are talk-based, and any exceptions that include touch-based methods will be discussed with the client prior. While sessions will differ depending on the treatment modality practiced by your chosen therapist, all have the additional focus of increasing the connection between mind and body through mindfulness and guided reflection.
- 04The specific concerns we support depend on each therapist’s specialization, but overall our practice focuses on supporting clients through stress, trauma, and burnout. Stress can come from many sources - work pressures, relationship challenges, life transitions, or ongoing responsibilities that can feel overwhelming. We also work with different types of trauma, including acute events, chronic or ongoing stressors, relational or attachment wounds, and experiences that may not have seemed “big” at the time but still impact daily life. Our therapists tailor treatment to your needs so you can understand your experiences, heal, and build healthier patterns.
- 05We work with adults and couples. At this time, we do not offer therapy for children or teens. If you’re unsure whether your needs fit our services, we’re happy to talk during a consultation and help you find the right support.
- 06Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. Look for someone whose approach, experience, and personality feel like a good fit for you. It can help to read about their training, specialties, ask questions, and trust your sense of comfort and connection in the first conversation. If you aren’t feeling a connection within the first 1-2 sessions, we’re happy to refer you to another provider who may be a better fit.
- 07Being a certified therapist means they’ve completed specialized training beyond their license requirement and have demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in a specific therapeutic approach. Certification programs often involve months or even years of study, supervised practice, and continuing education. At Currents, every therapist is actively pursuing or has achieved an advanced certification in their area of expertise. This means you can feel confident knowing your therapist is both highly qualified and dedicated to offering the most informed, effective care possible.
